Meet Marcellus Crews
Receiving the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award

The Journey of Crews
For more than 40 years, Maryland has been home to Crews, but the values that guide his leadership began with the example set by his parents.
Crews come from a veteran family of educators and trailblazers. His mother, the second oldest of twelve children, grew up in humble circumstances but possessed an extraordinary commitment to education and service. After skipping two grades and graduating from college, she helped put many of her brothers and sisters through school, helping lift her family out of poverty.
Her leadership would later break barriers. She became the first woman to serve as Vice President at a historically Black college, worked with the Clinton Administration during the launch of national faith-based initiatives, and became the first woman officer in the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church. Through her example, Crews learned that leadership is about service, sacrifice, and opening doors for others.
His father a veteran instilled discipline and intellectual curiosity. Through constant reading, study, and philosophical debates, Crews learned how to think critically, evaluate ideas, and search for deeper truths.
Together, his parents taught him a lifelong lesson: compassion must be paired with discipline, and vision must be paired with thoughtful leadership.
As a teenager, Crews left Huntsville, Alabama to attend Pine Forge Academy, a historic boarding school in Pennsylvania known for developing leaders. There he became a choir section leader, joined the basketball team, and formed a singing group inspired by the legendary a cappella group Take 6. His leadership abilities were quickly recognized when he became one of the first sophomore Resident Assistants in the boys’ dorm.
Those experiences reinforced a belief that continues to guide him today: when young people are given mentorship, structure, and opportunity, they rise.

In 2009, Crews founded CREWSING Technologies, a Maryland-based company specializing in smart infrastructure, networking, and cloud computing solutions for homes, businesses, schools, and government institutions.
His commitment to service has remained constant. Crews helped raise $6.6 million to support homeless initiatives, organized bone marrow donor drives that resulted in life-saving matches, and received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to serving others.
Today, Crews continues working to expand economic opportunity, strengthen education and workforce development, and bring communities together around a shared vision for the future.
